Club Rules
Etiquette
Students should:
Respect one another and their instructors
Be considerate to lower and younger grades
Make newcomers feel welcome
Look after and be courteous to their partners at all times
Not be late for class
Bow when entering and leaving the dojo
Bow when stepping onto and leaving the mat
Bow to their partners before and after practicing with them
Bow to high ranking judo officials and VIPs (Very Important People) when they
enter and leave the dojo
Line-up quickly and quietly in grade order at the start and end of the class
Not talk whilst standing in grade order
Wear their correct grade
Observe good dojo etiquette at all times
Safety
Students should:
Not fool around in the dojo
Listen to their instructors and do as they are asked
Keep the noise in the dojo to a minimum
Not wear any objects that are sharp or hard
Not wear any form of jewellery, except for glasses, which may be worn while
practising and learning theory, but not when contesting or taking part in games
Kneel or sit cross-legged on the floor, and not lie with their legs out
straight
Seek permission from an instructor before leaving the mat
Seek permission from an instructor before leaving the dojo
Only practise those techniques that they have been taught
Only apply those techniques which their partners are capable of receiving and
handling
Never perform judo techniques outside of the dojo, except, where necessary, in
the strict use of self defence
Inform an instructor about any injuries, ailments or medical conditions they
have prior to the start of the class
Inform an instructor about any injuries or ailments they acquire during the
class
Be accompanied into and be collected from the dojo by their parents or
guardians
Hygiene & Attire
Students should:
Wear a clean judo suit that is in a good state of repair
Have clean hair and a clean body
Keep their fingernails and toenails short and clean
Keep long hair tied back
Female members should wear a white short sleeved tee shirt underneath their
judo jacket that can be tucked into their trousers, or a white leotard with
short sleeves
Where possible, come to judo already changed into their judo suits
Not walk onto or across the mat with shoes on
Not walk barefooted off the mat; slippers should be worn to and from the mat
and be placed with the toes pointing outwards from the mat
Food & Drink
Students should:
Not eat or drink on the mat
Keep wrapped food and containerised drinks away from the mat
Where necessary, only consume modest amounts of food and drink at certain break
points during the class
General
Parents, guardians and students should:
Sign the club register and pay the correct mat fee to the bursar before
stepping onto the mat
Where possible, leave valuable items at home
Silent mobile ring tones inside the dojo and conduct personal calls outside of
the dojo
Not smoke in the dojo
